Robert Driscoll Elementary School gets sensory room

With the help of a "Students With Autism" grant presented to the Robstown Independent School District, Robert Driscoll Elementary now has its very own state-of-the-art sensory room.

ROBSTOWN, Texas — A special ceremony was held in Robstown Tuesday for children with special needs.

With the help of a "Students With Autism" grant presented to the Robstown Independent School District, Robert Driscoll Elementary now has its very own state-of-the-art sensory room.

The room is not only meant for students with autism, but other special needs to help them feel more at ease when they come to school.

"Students with autism get really overstimulated in the classrooms and just in everyday life, so something like this really helps them to what we call regulate themselves," Speech Pathologist Laura Zimmerman said. "They get to calm down and be ready for the day again."

With the help of the grant, not only did the school get a sensory room, but they also shared their money with nine other school districts in the Region 2 area.
